Wish You Were Here - Review

What best follow up to Dark Side of the Moon than Wish You Were Here? Two years after the Dark Side of the Moon the band was a little lost. Why? They have reached the top with the Dark Side album and they were asking themselves what more there was to do. They already had the concept of Shine on you Crazy Diamond but has for the rest they didn't knew what to make song about. Then they had the brilliant idea of making music about that feeling and Roger with his awesome ability to make lyrics started working on the feeling of absence and about the world of music and fame. And so Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar and Wish You Were Here were born.

This is one awesome album with almost no flaws but when I hear it I get the feeling that something is missing, maybe that is what they want me to feel. Starting up with what I think to be one of their best song, Shine On You Crazy Diamond talks about their friend Syd that they missed since he left the band because of his madness. This is one great music divided in to two parts that together makes about 25 minutes. The guitar solos are great, the sax solos are great too, the keyboards are excellent, the drums has a very good entry and a nice beat and the junction of their voices are perfect. The next song Welcome to the machine, filled with shintethizers is a good song but I believe its the weakest on this album. Then Have a Cigar has a nice beat and the lyrics are great. It really says what they wanted to say, the way things work on the music world. Finally one of the three most famous songs of them Wish You Were Here, this song as a very abstract theme, it can mean lots of different things to different people and it also has a very strong meaning to me. It's a different song from the rest of the album, I think it has one of the best lyrics made by Waters and I love the way the piano and acoustic guitar joined together. Its a powerful song.

This for me its a very well made album, especially the instrumental part. If you don't have this CD what are you waiting for? Here's what I think of it:

A+
